Week 3: Impacting a Community

From Paul’s description of the church of Ephesus, we learn much about how to impact a community for Christ.

1. The greatest way to impact a community is through personal relationships.

Paul said “You know, from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I always lived among you” (vs. 18)

2. To impact a community we should be consistent in our commitment.

Paul said “with many tears and trials which happened to me by the plotting of the Jews”. (vs. 19)

3. To impact a community we should be filled with compassion.

“He who continually goes forth weeping, bearing seed for sowing, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.” (Ps. 126:6)

4. To impact our community we should be comprehensive with our approach.

F – Face the other person even if they won’t face you.
I – Ignore the temptation to sidetracked. Admit fault quickly.
G – Guard your tongue. Don’t get involved in name calling.
H – History belongs in the past. God doesn’t bring up our past.
T – touch shows that we’re still on the same team.
S – Stay in there. Don’t let the sun go down while you’re still angry.

2. How to Improve Family Relations Through
a. Why do we lack communication?
Resist the temptation to: blame, yell, be selfish, change the other person
b. How can we communicate better?
Say five nice things before you say one bad thing.
Don’t criticize the person, just the problem.
Give forgiveness as Christ forgave you.
Express worry very wisely.
Express worry to God first before going to anyone else.
trouble is mandatory, worry is optional

3. How to Build Strong Family Relationships?
a. Learn to be committed to one another.
b. It relies on our Christian Maturity.
c. Unconditionally love.
